Bubble tea, tea houses, Asian bakeries and dessert shops in this group are usually walk-in, counter-order businesses with a menu board overhead listing sweetness and ice levels you can adjust when ordering. Standard bubble tea customization includes sugar level (0-100%), ice level, and a choice of toppings like boba pearls, pudding or jelly, usually at a small extra charge. Asian bakeries sell items individually with tongs and a tray, cafeteria-style, rather than pre-boxed, and pastries are typically less sweet than Western bakery items. Lines build up quickly after school and in the evening, especially near colleges. Most of these businesses accept cards and mobile pay and skew younger in clientele and atmosphere.

I came across this tiny bake shop so many years ago and I loved all the cakes. I got a roll cake a few years back and it lives in my memory. I was really excited to be in area again recently to get this cake again, only chocolate roll cake was available so I got chocolate strawberry. Sadly, it did not live up to the memory. The strawberry or chocolate taste was just a whisper, the cream needs a bit more sweetness. I swear this cake slice used to be almost 3 times the size of it now. It was finished very quickly in a few bites, for $8 a pop I was underwhelmed. The lady serving was friendly and I’m still happy to support a small business.

What can I say. Never had Coffee Crunch cake before. Friend recommended and that’s how we went. They are only open Wednesday to Saturday from 10am to 4pm. By the time we arrived at 11am only ones left were coffee crunch cake slices. No other rolls. Also, cash only. We bought two slices to try and omg! It was so good. Heard you have to pre order the whole cake. I would’ve done it if I knew how good it was. It’s so worth it. I’m definitely ordering the whole cake next time I’m in town.

My husband ordered the coffee crunch cake for our daughter’s birthday. He told me this cake was always sold out. Although I am not a fan of the crunchy bits (I don’t like anything sticking to my teeth), this cake did not disappoint. It’s delicious and not overly sweet. I just wish it had a stronger coffee flavor (Tiramisu is my favorite cake) and a more moist sponge. Overall, the experience of eating this particular cake was elegant.

If only I lived within walking distance, stopping by this local bakery would easily be a weekly routine. I've only tried their famous coffee crunch cake and I am hooked! The sponge cake is light and moist and is the perfect complement to the coffee crunch pieces that coat the cake. The bakery is cash only and I would call right when they open and request them to reserve slices for you. I made the disappointing mistake of dropping by casually in the early afternoon, only to find out that they had long run out for the day. Whole cakes have to be ordered at least one day in advance. I am already dreaming of returning to try their other baked goods--lemon and chocolate crunch cakes, I'm coming for ya!
